Covid  Safety at Jin Sei Ryu Chicago

Covid Safety

Jin Sei Ryu Chicago was born during the global Covid-19 pandemic, and we take public health precautions very seriously.  We will always follow the guidance of our leaders in science: the CDC and WHO.  All instructors are fully vaccinated (and boosted!), and we encourage all students to get vaccinated.  However, we do not require vaccinations for participation nor do we track our students’ vaccination status.  If we learn of an in-class Covid exposure, we will notify affected students and/or parents so they may take appropriate precautions.

Mask Guidelines

Our classes are currently mask-optional. However, we fully support students who choose to mask, and take the additional precaution of requiring students who do partner exercises with a masked student to also mask. We fully support each student in making the choice that is best for them.  We have individually-wrapped, single use masks for kids and adults available for student use.

Remote Group and Private Classes for Adults (Ongoing!)

With two dedicated full-time professional teachers, we are committed to offering remote classes to supplement our in-person classes.  Our remote group classes are not appropriate for brand new beginners, but we can find ways to work with folks who can’t risk in-person classes.

Our remote classes are designed to take advantage of — rather than merely adapt to — the home environment. No equipment (other than a chair or wall and 6-10 square feet of space) are needed. We support students who have a variety of unusual space constraints. We understand that pets and young children will make cameos –and we strive to create an atmosphere that is low-stress but still challenging. In the comfort and safety of your home space, you will benefit from instruction and feedback from experienced teachers experienced in teaching and training from home. We find a way to make it work. If you have an open heart and a desire to try something new and physically and mentally challenging, we want to work with you!

We encourage prospective students who can not risk in-person group classes even with masking to reach out to us. We recognize that not all bodies can healthily risk in-person group classes and that those who care for at-risk folks can’t risk exposure to Covid-19. We will always support your choice to prioritize the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and others.  We can arrange private sessions (either remote or in-person, outdoors or indoors) to ensure everyone has access to karate while making sure their safety needs are met.
