As consummate teachers and learners, we continue our own training, both independently on our own, and with our teachers in NY and Australia. We believe it is important to model shoshin (beginner’s mind) for other students by continuously taking classes from other instructors and important as teachers to continue to learn and refine our teaching methods through the support of a community of teachers. Accordingly, Senpai Amy and Senpai Kyren continue to train regularly (remotely) with their teacher in New York, Sei Shihan Mel Ramsey, head instructor of West Side Jin Sei Ryu.
Senpai Amy and Senpai Kyren involved in the international Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do community through serving on the International Strategic Planning Committee, which currently meets bi-monthly. Under the guidance of Founding Director, Kancho Ino Maquirang, we collectively discuss and plan future events and directions for the organization.
As part of this work, Senpai Amy and Senpai Kyren likewise share their expertise as leaders in the field of Empowerment Self-Defense. Kyren and Amy collaborate with other instructors and organizations across the United States, including the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF) and the Association of Women Martial Artists Instructors (AWMAI).
